Abstract:
The heartwood of Santalum spicatum was collected from local distillers and essential oil was extracted by steam distillation method. The chemical composition of essential oil was determined using a gas chromatography flame ionization detector (GC-FID) and a mass-selective detector (GC-MS). In the analysis, 22 constituents were identified and among 11 constituents have commercial value. These were b- bisabolene (1.08%), b- santalene (0.80%), a-santalyl acetate (2.58%), a-santalol (1.19%), cis-a-santalol (4.69%), trans-bergamotol (1.28%), cis-a-santalol (8.40%), trans-b-santalol (2.22%), lanceol (37.82%), nuciferol (17.62%) and spirosantalol (1.02%).
